FedEx Logistics: Character Concepts
Cartoons have always been a big part of Paul's life. His future career was most likely determined when he won the poster contest in Mrs. Knispel's 5th grade class. The theme was ecology. For this inspired work he received a John F. Kennedy 50 cent piece. Afterwards, and to his classmate's delight, he would continue scribbling his art with the fat black Laddie pencil on the smooth desk tops at St. Joseph's parochial school.
High school happened. Sports, art, band, social meanderings and a job in his dad's auto body repair shop kept him fairly busy. Paul managed to graduate with Cum Laude honors. A trip to California then a year of factory work motivated him to pursue and conquer a degree in graphic design at Kent State University. While there, he was honored with a position in the infamous student staffed Glyphics Studio. He also won several awards, including American Greetings Best Graphic Design Portfolio & NOVA's Cleveland's Art Focus poster contest, juried by internationally renowned designer, Dietmar Wienkler. Later he would win a calendar contest sponsored by Pansophic and also The Association for Multi-Image International's (AMI) Outstanding Achievement Award.
While working at CPS Meetings, a multi-media company in Cleveland, Paul entered and won King Features' Syndicate and USA Weekend Magazine's Cartoonist of the 90's contest. He and co-winner, Glenn McCoy (The Duplex), spent a week in New York with many syndicated cartoonist's, including Mort Walker (Beetle Bailey). You can see some of Paul's comic work on this site.
